Another novel approach to history

This is a blog just to start putting out thoughts on research into a series of alternative history novels on which I am working. This is a way to help me not make this project vaporware.

The beginning of the journey

Well, every journey starts somewhere doesn't it? This journey is the start of a series of fiction novels based on speculative and alternative history. It came to me while reading The Da Vinci code. Like half of the free world, I enjoyed Mr. Brown's novel, but I didn't really understand the whole reason for everyone to be up in arms about it. It was a work of fiction based on a limited number of sources. I have read many other sources which are equally entertaining and equally informative. My frustration is that some of them pass off much fiction in the guise of nonfiction.

So, my bright idea is to write a series of novels which will be advertised as fiction that take information from many different sources and move them along to build another idea to history. I will cover things from the Pharaoh Akhenaten, through the rise of Judaism, Christianity, The Gnostics, Templars, Masons, modern researchers, and so many other things thrown in to boot.

From here, the journey will continue to discuss the research and the bold outlines of plot. As a writer and a bishop, I know that some of what I write is going to be theologically challenging to others, however, I believe that is a good thing. I think we should challenge our beliefs in order to ensure we don't become hidebound and attached to things we cannot support under the weight of evidence to the contrary.
